MEASURING CATHOLICITY

I’m thinking of ways of expressing how “Catholic” a person might be. Five on a scale of 1 to 10? Sometimes, Always, Never? More on Sunday, less during the week. Very much so right after the Sacrament of Reconciliation, slowly diminishing until jacked up the next time? More so when talking about it gregariously to people, less so when preoccupied with personal sins and failings?
There seem to be a number of litmus tests: have a big family, be comfortably white, middle class, be active at the parish, be “normal”? Maybe there have been or need to be some of those magazine self quizzes, where you check off a few multiple choice questions and then look at the answers printed upside down or on another page, to see how you measure up.
Oh well, the Lord knows, and I suppose everyone knows in his own heart.
