Bible Study Leftover

Today, discussing last Sunday’s Readings, our group considered the account in Second Matthew of the visit of the Wise Men. We touched on them being, or not being, kings, their unknown number, the nature of the gifts they presented, and other considerations. Our hostess commented on the seemingly miraculous development that pagan sages far from Israel would have been informed about the birth of a Jewish Messiah. Time did not allow me to mention that I had heard somewhere that if the Wise Men had been residents of Babylon they might have encountered some record of the Jewish scriptural and prophetic accounts available there due to the presence of the Jews there due to the Babylonian exile.
