Mike, one of the administrators of my Catholic Friends group on the Multiply network did some research and posted a lot of information about the Nativity and Holy Childhood of the blessed Virgin Mary which will be observed September 8th. The Maria Bambina (Italian for Baby Mary) devotion is treasured and preserved by the Sisters of Charity of Milan in Milan Italy, and is also significant in Mexico, Poland and the Philippines (where they use the name Mariam Bambinella). In some ways it might be likened to the better known devotions to Infant and Child Jesus. The history of the waxen simulcrum or image of Maria Bambina is particularly fascinating.
