ARTICULATING
In one of the jargons I’ve heard they use the term ‘articulating’ to signify that there is provision for seamless movement among separate levels of people or organizations, as, for example, “the projects of the night shift are articulated with those of the day shift.” In trying to talk people about our faith it seems it is salutary to have ways of ‘articulating’ our ideas with theirs.
Rather than telling them how we differ, it might be more productive to find areas of agreement. What part does faith or thoughts of the Supreme Being play in their lives? What is their take on what happens to people when they die? Are we meant to love one another? Strangers as well as family? Building on what we can find in common with people who don’t share our understanding, we can begin to construct platforms and bridges whereby we can pass back and forth, comparing and contrasting viewpoints as we perhaps solidify some areas of mutuality to build upon.
