Furthermore…

Discussing the Sunday readings about Jesus’ farewell to His disciples and Ascension into Heaven, a lot of our interest centered on the way the disciples must have felt and reacted in such extraordinary circumstances. I think we, like the disciples, were wishing that He might have stayed longer, and made things simpler and clearer for us.

But I guess there would be less merit involved in following a Jesus who required no leaps of faith or setting out onto unknown seas fraught with opposition and dangers. Holy Spirit, we need You! If it was an easy walkaway, nearly everyone would do it. Then we’d have a mediocre Heaven populated with dull underachievers unlikely to fully appreciate the greatness of God. Lovable though!
