Y’know, like Judaizers. Every now and then I hear someone call upon s bit of Latin in connection with something that happened in Bible times, some words that were spoken perhaps, with an implication intended that this is an authentic rendering of exactlywhat was said way back then. ‘Mary’s fiat’ is often referred to in this way. Maybe it is used as an aid to concision or universality of understanding and discourse, or perhaps it helps give an impression of linguistic command and authenticity, but it clouds the picture if it conveys the sense that this was the exact form of expression that was spoken. Using the actual language that was spoken, assuming one knows it, instead of Latin, is not preferable though.
