Furthermore…

I heard a radio funky commercial which pretended that someone was making objections to doing what the commercial was pitching. Each time the imaginary reluctant customer state his objection to falling in line with the pitch, a quiz-show WRONG!! type buzzer sounded, and then the pitchman stated why the objection was untenable.

It made me think that it would be a cute way of shooting down some of the tired old arguments which are used to criticize or resist Catholicism. Something like this:

ATTRACTIVE VOICE: So why did you stop going to Mass?

DULL, STOLID-SOUNDING VOICE - I don’t want the Pope in my bedroom!

(LOUD BUZZER) WRONG!!! The Pope has greater respect for the sacredness and privacy of peoples’ bedrooms than almost anyone alive. He would like everyone to see the things that belong in the bedroom as beautiful , sacred and deserving of the highest respect. I’d like to tell you about “The Theology of the Body” approach to these things…
