‘SINOIDS’

Once I heard a wag say that when he goes to Confession he feels impelled to confess ‘being himself.’ I know the feeling. In addition to the familiar commissions of “thought, word and deed” sins, there seem to be some more ectoplasmic ’sinoids,’ as hard to nail down as to nail Jello to the wall.

There are the Dispositions. Part of the Original Sin fallen human nature package, they are preferences like those of the author of the bumper sticker I’D RATHER BE FISHING; one would rather be sinning, if it weren’t for all those rules and social constraints.

Then there is  another part of the fallen human nature package, that might be called dullness, or stupidity, or ’personal malfunction,’ to borrow a term from the infamous Superbowl ‘wardrobe malfunction’ of a while back. There isn’t a clear, distinct consent of the will, but the phonomenon originates with, or from within, oneself , and seems to beget guilt just as dependably as Class A , pedigreed sins committed with gusto.
