THE CHRISTMAS POLICE
It seems that the dull merchants who want to be friends with everyone are being tarred with a broad brush by fanatics who think that using the expression ”Happy Holidays” is tantamount to an attack on Christianity. I believe I’ve heard “Happy Holidays” all my life and I always thought that the merchants were rather clever in their finding a wholesome-sounding common denominator to everyone’s warm feelings at Christmas, er, Holiday time.
Is it wise to have a chip on one’s shoulder and accuse sensible people of nefarious skullduggery just because they aren’t inclined to trumpet “Keep Christ in Christmas” or “Jesus is the Reason for the Season” all December? On the other hand, the fools who forbid their employees from saying “Merry Christmas” when an occasion arises deserve all the agony they get from the Christmas Police!
