HE ALWAYS SPEAKS WELL OF YOU

My Dad, a jokester,  had a clever conversational gambit he used to bring people up short when he caught one person criticising another. He’d let it go on a bit until the critic had left no doubt that the person in the hotseat posessed far more faults than redeeming qualities, and then Dad would say, seemingly sincere - “Funny, he always speaks well of you!”

I want to see people always speak well of  God.  It’s ever a blessing and uplifting to think of and refer to Him, but it seems so much better to always add a laudatory embellishment, such as  “Almighty God” or “Eternal God.” It’s an easy habit to get into, and so much more respectful and reflective of a sense of awe and  majesty.

I saw a list once of an array of names or titles used by the Jewish people for Holy God. Each referred to a specific and praiseful Divine attribute. How much a more elegant and refined sense of His infinite goodness these carefully chosen names and titles convey!
